At The Dower House, it is not just experience that defines great care - it is the people who bring compassion, energy, and a genuine connection to those around them. Lexie, one of our Health Care Assistants, is a fantastic example of the new generation entering care with purpose and passion.
Lexie’s journey into care began through a college placement as part of a T-level health programme. What started as a learning opportunity quickly became something much more. “When I came to The Dower House, I knew I wanted to stay and work here,” she explains. Having recently completed her studies, Lexie has now begun building a meaningful career in healthcare.
At the heart of Lexie’s role is one simple but powerful focus: relationships. “The best part of my job is the relationships I’ve built with residents,” she says. “Seeing them smile and knowing I’ve helped them feel safe and valued.”
A strong advocate for person-centred care, Lexie takes pride in understanding each resident as an individual - adapting care to reflect
their preferences, routines, and personalities. It is this attention to detail that helps create a true sense of home.
Like many in care, Lexie has quickly come to appreciate the emotional depth of the role. Supporting residents through illness and change can be challenging, but it has helped her grow in confidence and resilience. “It was unexpected how much emotional support is part of the job - not just physical care,” she reflects.
Some of Lexie’s proudest moments come from seeing the difference she can make in someone’s life. Helping a resident regain
confidence, begin to trust, and look forward to each day again is what makes the role so rewarding.
For Lexie, it is the small moments that matter most - taking time to sit and talk, remembering the details that matter, and making each person feel seen and respected. These everyday gestures help build trust and create meaningful connections.
Lexie describes The Dower House as a place that “feels like a real home,” where the team works closely together and residents are always treated as individuals. The role has also shaped her outlook on life. “Everyone has a story,” she says. “Kindness and respect go a long way, and small acts of care can mean everything.”
Lexie also brings creativity and balance into her life outside of work, from spending time with family and friends to exploring photography and sculpture - ensuring she can continue to care for others with energy and positivity.
When asked what advice she would give to someone considering a career in care, Lexie is clear: “It’s not always easy, but it’s one of the most rewarding jobs you can do.” Lexie’s story highlights the importance of care as a profession - skilled, compassionate, and deeply human. At The Dower House, we are proud to support people like Lexie as they build their careers and make a real difference every day.
