Domestic Assistant

Reporting to: Housekeeper
Responsible to: General Manager
Hours: As per individual Contract of Employment
Holiday Entitlement: 5.6 weeks pro rata
Pay Rate: £10.55 per hour

Principle Responsibilities:

To provide and maintain a high standard of cleaning services at The Dower House. To undertake all duties and responsibilities in a way which reflects the overall philosophy of The Dower House which is to put our residents needs first in a professional and friendly atmosphere.

Detailed Responsibilities:

Daily

• Hoover all residents rooms, designated corridors, stairs, public areas and offices within your section.
• Dust residents & public area furniture and ornaments within your section.
• Hoover curtains, armchairs and under cushions where debris collects.
• Empty bins and collect old newspapers and dispose of appropriately.
• Water flowers and plants and remove dead flowers.
• Clean telephones and TV remote controls daily.
• Polish mirrors and pictures.
• Dust high levels (walls, cornices etc) with long handed feather duster.
• Clean basins, all surfaces, pipes, towel rails, loo brush holders and bins.
• Mop bathroom floor.
• Clean toilet, remove and clean raised loo seat. Ensure pipe work and U bend behind the toilet is cleaned and sign cleaning record sheet provided.
• Clean bath area and bath panel.
• Clean toothbrush holder.
• Straighten towels, flannels and toiletries.
• Check supply of toilet rolls, soap and paper towels and replenish as needed.
• In sluice rooms and shared bathrooms all surfaces are to be thoroughly washed or mopped.
• Leave only the listed cleansers in bathroom cupboards and ensure locked when finished with.
• Always shut fire doors behind you.
• Use pink cloths for toilets and blue for surfaces.
• Put all equipment neatly away after use to avoid trip hazards.
• Always use Yellow ‘Trip Hazard’ sign when hovering to bring others to the attention of trailing leads.
• Report any maintenance issues in maintenance book so that they are dealt with in a timely manner.

Monthly or as necessary

• All rooms to be inspected for cleanliness and/ or repairs by Housekeeper.
• Clean brass and silver.
• Clean behind beds, small furniture and pictures. (Ask maintenance to assist with moving furniture).
• Hoover and wash inside wardrobe floors.
• Dust high lampshades
• Dust all skirting boards
• You are responsible for changing the hoover bag, keeping your equipment clean and reporting any faults.

Changeovers

• Curtains and carpets are to be cleaned or replaced as necessary.
• Any major updates to room or bathroom will be undertaken and redecoration will be carried out as required.
• Once room has been completed, it is to be cleaned thoroughly and then inspected by the Housekeeper & signed off complete by the General Manager.

Yearly

• All areas, carpets, furnishings etc cleaned on a rotational basis.

General

• Maintain an efficient use of supplies and encourage good housekeeping principles to ensure a maximum cost effective usage of equipment/supplies.
• Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and report any problems to the General Manager.
• Ensure that Health & Safety policies and procedures are adhered to in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
• Ensure clinical waste is disposed of in the correct manner.
