Classic Car Memories Revived Through Special Community Connection

At The Dower House, we are always looking for ways to connect residents with their interests, hobbies and life experiences, and a recent outing for a group of classic car enthusiasts proved to be a wonderful example of this.

Residents were invited by members of our local community to see a beautifully preserved 1953 Morgan Plus 4 and hear the remarkable story behind it. For residents with a passion for classic cars, it was an opportunity too good to miss.

The Morgan has been part of its owners’ family story for more than fifty years. They shared how they drove away from their wedding in the car in 1970 and went on to enjoy countless adventures together, including an extraordinary journey all the way to Mongolia (pictured above). Listening to these stories captivated everyone and sparked plenty of conversation about motoring, travel and memories from years gone by.

Residents Patricia, Allen, David and Ian particularly enjoyed the experience, reminiscing about their younger years and sharing stories of their own. For David and Ian, both lifelong admirers of classic cars, seeing the Morgan up close was a real highlight.

Ian was delighted by the afternoon and said:

“It was absolutely fascinating. I loved hearing about the Morgan and all the places it has travelled to over the years. The car is beautiful, and listening to the stories behind it brought back so many memories. It was an afternoon I shall remember for a long time.”

Our Activities Co-ordinator, Christine Farmery, explained why experiences like this are so important:

“Experiences like this are a wonderful example of the personalised activities we strive to provide for our residents. By getting to know people’s interests, hobbies and life stories, we can create meaningful opportunities that spark memories, encourage conversation and bring people together. We are incredibly grateful to members of our local community who generously share their time, passions and experiences with our residents.”
