Headbourne Worthy is well connected by the mainline railway service to Winchester and plenty of bus services. Southampton Airport can be reached in around 30 minutes and Heathrow in around 1 hour.
Headbourne Worthy and our neighbour, Kings Worthy, provide us with two beautiful parish churches – St Marys, dating back to Norman times and St Swithuns, which dates to Saxon times. https://worthychurches.org.uk/
Within a short drive or around 30 minutes’ walk, we have two local pubs, both serving lunchtime and evening meals. These are The King Charles and The Cart & Horses.
We also have a local farm shop & café, small convenience store, post office and pharmacy within the locality.
Venturing into Winchester provides a varied and fascinating day out in a cathedral city steeped in history, with the fantastic cathedral itself and grounds being a must see.
You will also find the Great Hall, Winchester College, Westgate Museum and The Gurkha Museum to name just a few of the many places to whet your historical appetite and providing something for all ages.
If you are looking for shopping or a bite to eat, there is a variety of well-known stores as well as smaller, independent businesses within the city centre. There are also many cafes, bakeries, pubs, and restaurants serving a wide variety of cuisines and catering for every budget, allowing a full day out and with plenty of parking. Thus, making it easy to visit your friend or loved one staying at The Dower House and enjoy a day in Winchester together.
We are also well placed for trips a little further afield, including Alresford, with lavender fields where you can not only enjoy the beautiful lavender season but also purchase items from their gift shops and cafes as well as the famous Watercress Line with day trips and many seasonal events.
Alton is also not far, known as well as Winchester itself for its links with Jane Austen.
