Until fairly recently visitors will have seen more traditional mats in place in parts of the home with sensors in, which were used to alert staff when a resident with more limited mobility had fallen. Whilst providing a way to quickly alert staff when help was urgently required, it also meant an unsightly mat, or two, in a residents room.
With the development of AI we’ve been able to change this and integrate a more discreet, but highly effective, system into our home.
By way of a sensor near the ceiling, the technology of this system will learn what is normal movement for someone and detects if there is movement near or on the floor. If anything abnormal is detected, the system sets off an emergency alert which comes up, and sounds, on screens linked to the system around the home as well as on devices carried by the care team whilst at work. This enables staff to attend immediately and check on the wellbeing of our resident.
In case you’re wondering how this works when residents are being helped with, for example, putting their shoes on - there is a way of turning the sensor off for a small amount of time to enable such tasks to be done without unnecessarily setting off the alarm.
