Our Award-Winning Laundry Hero!

Each week, The Dower House laundry team will process, on average, 2500 items of laundry. This includes high-quality garments that require specialist care. They are a small team, so this is no mean feat!

I took the opportunity to nominate our laundry team for their teamwork, adaptability, and excellent working practices, ensuring a continuous high-quality service is provided for all residents.

I also nominated our Laundry Supervisor, Wan Watters for the Love Laundry Hero Award for her attention to detail and commitment to her work. Where able, Wan ensures laundry is processed within 24 hours, should a resident request it, even during periods of staff shortages.

It is through this dedication to her role that she has developed the wonderful relationship she has with residents and colleagues, alike. Residents have said how much they look forward to her visits and that they have confidence in Wan’s ability to properly care for their treasured garments.

Sadly, our whole team didn’t make it through, but I was delighted when Wan was individually selected as a Finalist!

Wan and I were invited to the award ceremony, which was held at The Care Show in Birmingham’s NEC Arena on 11th October 2023. So, we booked the train tickets and off we went.

Wan was very nervous on the day because she didn’t know what to expect. Of course, she had nothing to worry about, and Wan was chosen as the winner of the Love Laundry Hero Award, out of 50 other nominees!

She was presented with a certificate and trophy, as well as being given £250 voucher for her to use on an electrical appliance for her home.

Of course, we celebrated with a few cheeky cocktails too!

Staff across all The Dower House’s teams show true diligence to ensure high levels of service are provided. It is always a pleasure to make these nominations, which show proper recognition for their hard work, and to reward them formally for their efforts.

We shall continue to make these nominations and create these special days.
