Residents Enjoy Close Encounters with Magnificent Birds of Prey

Residents had the opportunity to meet a variety of beautiful owls and birds of prey while learning about the vital work carried out by the rescue charity. Colin shared captivating stories about each bird, explaining their individual personalities, backgrounds and the care they receive, making the experience both entertaining and informative.

The Bird of Prey and Owl Rescue is dedicated to supporting sick, injured and vulnerable owls and birds of prey through specialist care, rehabilitation, aftercare and rehoming. Whenever possible, recovered wild birds are released back into their natural habitats. For those unable to return to the wild due to injury or disability, the team works tirelessly to find safe and caring forever homes.

Residents were fascinated to learn more about the challenges faced by birds of prey and the important role that rescue centres play in
protecting them. Colin also shared advice on what to do if members of the public encounter a young bird during the breeding season, highlighting the importance of seeking expert guidance before intervening.

“I absolutely loved meeting the birds. They were so beautiful and majestic, and it was wonderful to be able to see them so close up. Colin’s stories were fascinating and you could tell how much he cares for every single bird. It was a most enjoyable afternoon”.

Christine Farmery, Activities Co-ordinator at The DowerHouse, said:

“Visits like this are a wonderful example of the varied and meaningful activities we provide for our residents. We are always looking
for opportunities to bring new experiences into the home, whether that’s through animals, music, arts, community groups or educational talks. The birds sparked so many conversations and memories, and it was lovely to see residents so engaged and interested throughout the afternoon.”

The visit forms part of The Dower House’s ongoing commitment to providing enriching experiences that support wellbeing, encourage learning and create lasting memories for residents.
